We are so grateful to receive the news this morning that the EPA has blocked Pebble Mine forever under the Clean Water Act so that Bristol Bay can remain a biologically and culturally thriving place for generations to come. Since 2009 alone, Alaska Conservation Foundation has given over 4.2 million dollars in grants to protect Bristol Bay. It was a team effort to get here today and we’re so grateful for the Tribes, commercial fishermen, and people across the world who have contributed to today’s win. We couldn’t have gotten to this point without your support and we are so grateful to have you on our team.
“We applaud and thank the agency for their work. The Tribes in Bristol Bay have done the impossible by reaching today’s milestone, and they will determine the future of their cultural homelands. We will continue to support the Tribes in Bristol Bay in their efforts to protect their homes and their salmon way of life, without the existential threat of the mine. People in Alaska and the US who have struggled over 20 years to protect Bristol Bay can now focus on the region’s bright future. Pebble will always be the wrong mine in the wrong place.”
