Building resilience to climate change and protecting public lands and waters

Alaska’s wildlands, waters, wildlife, and the diverse cultures they sustain are facing increased pressures as global demands for its vast resources rise. Sensitive ecosystems face increasing pressure from the industrialization of oil and gas drilling, mineral extraction, and logging. In addition, Alaska is experiencing the effects of climate change at rates faster than other parts of the world. Fortunately, we still have the extraordinary opportunity in Alaska to protect intact natural landscapes and populations of wildlife not found anywhere else in the United States, and in few places worldwide.

We work to ensure Alaska’s unparalleled natural heritage will remain one of America’s greatest legacies for generations to come

Now is the time to protect wildlands from unsustainable development, ensure that Alaska’s ecosystems are resilient to the impacts of climate change, and assist communities in fostering more sustainable relationships with the environment.

Our conservation priorities include:

Mitigating the Impacts of Climate Change

Alaska is experiencing climate change at a rate faster than most parts of the world. Our changing climate is impacting not only the plants and animals in Alaska but also our communities and ways of life. We work collaboratively with communities statewide to adapt.
