Land Protection Through an Indigenous Lens

Friday, February 12th, 10 AM – 11:30 AM AKST

Please join Alaska Conservation Foundation as we host Fatima Abbas, Vice President of Government Relations for the National Congress of American Indians, Marina Anderson, Organized Village of Kasaan’s Tribal Administrator, and Karlin Itchoak, Alaska State Director for The Wilderness Society present on Indigenous centered conservation efforts.

With the newly elected Biden-Harris administration and Representative Deb Haaland, who, pending confirmation, will be the first Native American to run a Cabinet-level agency (DOI), speakers will discuss the importance of including indigenous voices for land and water protection and management. Specifically, the presentation will cover the recent return of the National Bison Range to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, the Traditional Homelands Conservation Rule filed by 12 Southeast Alaska Tribes via the Administrative Procedures Act, and the Imago Initiative – Pursuing a new approach for Arctic Refuge Indigenous protection.
