Program Overview for Host Organizations

 2012 Conservation Internship Program

Welcome host organizations!

For 2012, the Conservation Internship Program (CIP) has been restructured to align with ACF’s Theory of Change. This new direction focuses on building a stronger more diverse conservation movement to create enduring conservation impact and environmental policy. Key strategies to achieve these goals include: incorporating diverse partnerships, collaboration, innovation and citizen activist engagement, and building sustainable leadership.

To that end, the 2012 CIP program has been restructured as follows:

  1. Summer internships continue: ACF is funding 5 (traditional) summer internships from June to Aug. Organizations whose work aligns to the TOC key strategies (above) have been invited to participate.
  2. New longer-term positions: This year, ACF is introducing several longer-term (six-month), in-depth, collaborative internships to address the shared capacity building or emerging conservation issues of selected organizations. These six-month positions are intended to produce outcomes that benefit the broader conservation community, rather than just a single host organization.
  3. Alaska Native Fund intern pilot: ACF is piloting a limited number of invite-only, three-month internships for grantee organizations of the Alaska Native Fund.

Another important change in 2012 is that host organizations will review applicant information. ACF will be posting intern job descriptions on the ACF website in February 1st.  Submitted applications will be directed to the selected host organizations to review and select candidates for their positions.
