The state of Alaska runs three game sanctuaries that offer the adventurous traveler the wildlife viewing experience of a lifetime.
The most remote sanctuary is Walrus Islands, a protected site heavily used by marine mammals in northern Bristol Bay, hundreds of miles west of Alaska’s road system. Closer to major cities are two great bear viewing locations, McNeil River, accessible by charter flight from Anchorage, and Stan Price Sanctuary, a short charter flight from Juneau in southeast Alaska.
Visits to the best viewing spots in all three sanctuaries require permits. McNeil River permits are awarded by lottery.
Make a difference. Every dollar invested with the Alaska Conservation Foundation works to protect Alaska's wildlife and wildlands.
