Alaska is a globally recognized outstanding location for fishing and hunting enthusiasts, both from Alaska and the Lower 48. Many of these people are not actively involved in conservation advocacy, yet are alarmed by threats to Alaska, including the Bristol Bay region (salmon and hunting), Teshekpuk Lake (migratory birds), and the Tongass (salmon and hunting).

Our Role:
ACF’s Sportsman’s Alliance for Alaska (SAA) is playing an important role in making this important constituency vocally aware and involved in Alaska conservation efforts. In the coming year, SAA will continue to raise Alaska awareness among these important “swing” voters and donors, as well as exploring opportunities to launch a similar effort aimed at Alaska’s hunting and fishing community.

Goal:
Build an active constituency for conservation among people who are under-targeted with conservation messages, yet receptive to the importance of a health environment. Motivate these people to advocate for protecting Alaska lands, as well as provide financial support for outreach efforts within Alaska.
